We’re thrilled to launch our Brick by Brick Campaign — a year-long effort to pay down (and Lord willing, pay off!) the mortgage on our very first missionary home! Just last week marked one year since we purchased the house, and we are so grateful for all that God has already done through this space.

Our campaign’s house image contains 330 bricks, each representing a piece of our goal to eliminate the mortgage on our home. Every brick carries a different dollar amount, and each brick sponsored moves us closer to creating a debt-free space of rest and renewal for missionary families serving around the world.

Thousands of missionaries have dedicated their lives to sharing the gospel. Often times on the front lines, these spiritual workers experience a high level of stress, trauma, and/or conflict. Many return to their hometowns feeling depleted. Unfortunately, there are very few places for these workers to retreat to for rest and healing.

In Luke 10, we hear Jesus share the story of the Good Samaritan who took the time and paid the cost to care for someone who was hurting. Haven Missionary Homes offers an opportunity for the West Michigan community to care for and support the missionaries sent from our very own neighborhoods.

Entering the mission field in another country holds a great level of sacrifice and commitment. As the Church, we are called to rally around those who have been commissioned…to care for them, support them, and pray for them. Coming ‘home’ to the States can be an exciting time for missionaries as they look forward to connecting with family, friends, ministry partners, and supporting churches. However, most missionaries also feel a sense of stress, anxiety, and discomfort when they return to the States due to the long hours spent traveling, feeling the imposition of staying with family/friends, scheduling meetings, arranging to borrow a vehicle to get around, and upsetting their family’s routine (especially for kids).

Many missionaries are seeking a place to retreat to that allows them to have their own space, keep their own routines, and gives them a place to relax and be renewed. At Haven Missionary Homes, we have a heart for the well-being of missionaries and are honored to offer them a free place to stay where they can be refreshed and restored to their full potential in ministry for the glory of God.

You might be wondering why Haven Missionary Homes is launching a year-long campaign to pay down our mortgage when we’ve only owned the house for a year. The truth is, we’ve felt the Lord stirring our hearts to begin tackling the mortgage for two key reasons: 1. Stewardship: While taking out a mortgage was necessary to launch this ministry, we don’t want to carry that burden for 15–30 years. The amount we spend on interest each year could be used so much more fruitfully for ministry. 2. Growing Need: We’re approaching our 100th housing request which is a clear sign of the demand for missionary housing in our area. Paying down our current mortgage puts us in a stronger position to follow God’s lead if He calls us to expand in the future. We are trusting God to provide as we step out in faith. A huge thank you to the amazing 4th grade students from Zeeland Christian School who came out last week to rake leaves at our missionary house! You’re helping hands, big smiles and servant hearts made such a difference, and the yard looks beautiful! As a ZCS parent, it filled my heart with joy to see these students living out what they’re learning - loving their neighbors and serving others right here in their own community. ❤️

We are excited to introduce the ‘C family’ who just moved into our home last week! We are honored to provide a place for them to rest, recharge, and reconnect while they’re in the States. Here’s a little glimpse into the area where they serve, and how God is using their family to share the love of Jesus with their community. The C Family is serving in Central Asia. Their country of service is secular in governance, but culturally predominant Muslim (98%). The language and history is rooted in the Persian tradition, though a lot of Russian influence has been incorporated into current culture. It is considered one of the poorest nations in the world by GDP standards and regularly ranked at the top for foreign remittance or money earned outside the country and sent “home”. Hence the economy is not steady, sending many “fathers” abroad for work and young people searching for opportunities, first in the capitol, then abroad. There is a dichotomy as the capital continues to build high rise buildings and uses most the country’s resources, while 80% of the population live in “poverty” and in darkness, literally. A main export is hydroelectricity, yet it is sold to neighboring countries, rather than used for its own people. That’s a glimpse of the corrupt practices in all levels of government. It is a nation desperately in need of hope, and Hope is something we can offer as followers of Jesus! The people in Central Asia are so hospitable with many open to hearing the Good News. Many live hard lives, in many different ways, and are all hoping for something better…for themselves, their families, their kids, and for the future. Though it is not illegal to be a follower of Jesus, proselytization is, and it is very hard with the cultural and family pressures of a Muslim society. There are lots of opportunity to walk alongside local believers and share their faith with the curious and seeking in a sensitive way. One year ago, God opened the door for us to purchase our first missionary house! 🏠 We didn’t know all the steps ahead, but we trusted Him, and He’s been faithful every step of the way. What began as a simple purchase has become a powerful place of ministry, rest, and renewal for those who serve. 🌟 Board Member Spotlight: Kortney Yoder 🌟 Meet Kortney Yoder—devoted wife, mom of four, homemaker, and one of the hearts behind Haven Missionary Homes. She and her husband, Gabe, have been married for 17 years and share a deep commitment to faith and family. Guided by her love for God, Kortney is passionate about creating meaningful connections and spaces that reflect His love. From designing cozy, welcoming environments to practicing everyday hospitality, she lives out her calling to make people feel known, loved, and at home. When asked why she joined our board, Kortney shared: “When I first learned about the hopes for this ministry, I felt excitement and a little nudge from the Holy Spirit to be involved. One of my gifts is hospitality, and the vision for this home was overflowing with a need to share that with the missionaries who stay here. I pray everyone who walks through the door of this house feels at home.” Kortney - your warmth, creativity, and heart for people are such a gift to our mission and community.
